- Open Pesto from Applications.
- If macOS asks whether to open Pesto, choose Open. It asks once, because the file came from the internet.
Pesto is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. macOS may still ask you to confirm it the first time you open it.
For Homebrew users
Install with Homebrew
Homebrew is optional. It downloads the same disk image from GitHub Releases and checks it against its SHA-256.
brew install michaelro/copypesto/pesto
Click the command to select it, then paste it into Terminal.
It can be a version behind the disk image. Pesto updates itself and asks first, so brew upgrade leaves it alone unless you add --greedy.

What the command does, and how to remove Pesto
The command adds the michaelro/copypesto tap, which is Homebrew’s word for a software source. If Homebrew prompts to trust the tap, run brew trust michaelro/copypesto. Homebrew then puts Pesto in Applications.
To remove Pesto, run brew uninstall --cask pesto. This keeps your settings and history. To delete those too, run brew uninstall --cask --zap pesto. Make a backup in Settings, under Data, first if you want to keep your history.
Optional
Check the file
Download Pesto only through the button on this page, then check the SHA-256 above.
Check the download
In Terminal, this should print the same value as the SHA-256 above:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Pesto-1.1.0.dmgSee who signed it
After you drag Pesto to Applications, this prints its signing details, including the Developer ID that signed it:
codesign -dvvv /Applications/Pesto.appAsk macOS if it accepts the app
This asks macOS whether it accepts the app. It should print “Notarized Developer ID”:
spctl -a -vv /Applications/Pesto.appWhat to expect
Requirements and permissions
Mac only. There is no Windows or Linux version.
Pesto shows in the Dock only while Settings or About is open.
Pesto is not on the Mac App Store. It updates itself, and only after you say yes.
It lets Pesto paste into the app you were using, paste one by one and notice a double Command C, which is off until you turn it on. Nothing it sees through this permission is sent anywhere.
macOS may also ask you to let Pesto read the clipboard, under Privacy & Security, Paste from Other Apps. Until you choose Allow, nothing new is captured. Getting started walks through the setup.
Pesto is free, and every feature stays free. If it saves you time, you can support its development.
